If you’re a BBQ owner, there’s no doubt that you want to be able to use your grill all year round. To prepare your BBQ for year-round use, you need to make sure that your BBQ grill is in top notch condition! Proper maintenance is important to keep your gas BBQ, electric BBQ or charcoal BBQ functional for the best grilling experience.
Here are some tips and tricks to guide you through proper BBQ maintenance.
For each use
Always preheat your grill every time you use it. This helps in cleaning and disinfecting the grill. Fire up your grill, close the hood and let it reach the highest temperatures. This will burn away the food debris from previous grilling sessions, as well as the leftover drippings and grease. Brush the cooking grates to give yourself an extra clean cooking surface.
After every 8 uses
Remove and clean both sides of the cooking grates. Clean the metal barriers above the burners and below the grates as well. Check if you have to replace the drip pan and if you don’t, make sure you clean it well.
After each grilling year (or once a year if you cook on your BBQ year-round), it’s best to deep clean your grill. This ensures that it’s kept in excellent condition, so you can cook up a storm for years to come.
Prepare a bucket of water with soap.
Remove the cooking grates and soak them in the bucket.
While soaking the grates, brush the interior of the grill.
Remove the burners and clean through the ports with a pipe cleaner or small wire. Make sure no debris is left inside the burners, as this may cause uneven flames.
